This course is approved by TCEQ as a Resiliency Overview Core Course (course code 1657). Upon completion students will be awarded 2 training credit hours applicable towards qualification for a Texas water operator license. If the student already has a license and has never taken a Resiliency Overview Course then this course will count for their resiliency renewal requirements. Once an operator has used this course to obtain, upgrade, or renew a license this course will not count for resiliency continuing education credit.

Description

This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the principles and practices of emergency management for water systems in Texas. The course covers topics such as the Incident Command System (ICS), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the role and responsibilities of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the requirements and components of an Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP), mutual aid agreements, and the identification and protection of critical components of water systems.

The learning objectives of the course include describing the purpose and benefits of ICS and NIMS, identifying the basic structure and principles of ICS, explaining the role of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, summarizing the requirements of an EPP, and understanding the importance of mutual aid agreements. This course is intended for water system operators and other personnel involved in emergency management for water systems.
