Click on the “+” symbols to learn about Iron and Manganese Staining

Manganese in the water supply will cause brown or black spots on laundry and plumbing fixtures.  The maximum desirable level of manganese is 0.05 mg/L to avoid staining.  The threshold at which it creates an undesirable taste in the water is 5 mg/L. Therefore, manganese will cause staining problems long before it creates a taste or odor problem.
